The main idea of association is to combine the user experience in Duo with the useful functionality of Meet. A new application should be released under the name Meet. It is worth noting that Duo was initially positioned as a tool for making quick and convenient video calls, while Meet was designed for business conferences in video format.

Duo functionality will remain in the future program. Among the main options, the ability to call a phone number or email address, apply filters and effects, and communicate via messaging and voice through the Assistant application will remain. Correspondence log, correspondence information and messages are synchronized with the future service.

In contrast, functions like scheduling meetings, choosing a virtual background image when making a video call, text chat for conferences, and the option to send what's in media to all conference participants will be taken over from Meet. Additionally, the updated software will enable online subtitles, increase the limit of meeting participants from 32 to 100, and integrate with other proprietary services (Gmail, Calendar, Assistant).

The new unified service will launch before the end of this year.
