System Features

Delay
SmartTubeext does not display any advertising banners, preroll ads or ad spikes. Not only does it try to prevent them, but it's also programmed to not be able to display any ads, so YouTube can't scroll anything. This also means you cannot allow ads or whitelisting. Some YouTube channels include sponsored messages in their videos, these can also be skipped, see SponsorBlock below.

sponsorblok
SmartTubeext includes a sponsorblok integration. From the SponsorBlock website:

SponsorBlock is an open-source crowdsourced browser extension and open API for bypassing sponsor segments in YouTube videos. […] The extension automatically bypasses sponsors it knows are using a privacy protection query system. It also supports skipping other categories like intros, outros, and reminders to subscribe [and non-music tracks in music videos].

In the settings you can choose which categories you want to skip. Unlike the browser plug-in, you can't send new segments in SmartTubeNext (TVs and TV remotes aren't great devices for this kind of precise processing).

Casting
To cast video from your phone (or other devices), you need to connect this device to your TV. Unlike the original YouTube app, SmartTubeNext doesn't automatically appear when you're on the same WiFi network. How to connect your smartphone and TV:

Open SmartTubenext and go to settings
Go to “Link Devices” (option 2)
Open your YouTube app on your phone, go to Settings > Watch on TV
Connect using TV code and enter the code on your TV

Picture (PIP)
SmartTubeext, PIP modIt also supports video playback. This needs to be enabled under Settings > General > Background Playback > Picture. Video PIP when you press home while playing a video and if enabled in Settings > General > Background Playback (Activation) modit will go into it.

Adjust Speed
You can adjust the playback speed by pressing the speedometer icon (gauge) on the top row of the player. It is remembered among these videos. Some speeds may drop within the case frame, this is a known issue.

Voice call
To enable global voice search, an additional application must be installed along with SmartTubeNext. This bridge app can block the system's attempts to open the original YouTube app and open SmartTubeNext instead. You must uninstall the original YouTube app for this to work. We know this sucks, but you can always reinstall if you change your mind. The bridge app will not appear in your launcher and you cannot launch it directly; Used internally only with system voice dialing. On some devices, you must explicitly say “YouTube” when searching (for example, say “YouTube cute cats” instead of just “cute cats”).
